  About "essential oils".

If the wax is the cornerstone and the face, the essential oils are the whole soul.

However, for the uninitiated, the use of essential oils is one of the biggest headaches.

For one thing, pure essential oils are not that easy to buy, and there is no easy way to distinguish between real and fake oils on the internet

Secondly, they are expensive, with 10ml of high purity oil costing over $100.

Thirdly, essential oils melt into high wax liquids and volatilise easily, requiring a high level of production skill, otherwise they are wasted.

The fourth single essential oil smell monotonous, a good smell needs to be compounded perfume, professional players will only skills

So often newcomers, if they are not so demanding about quality, can start with candle fragrances to save money and variety.

  About "candle materials".

1, wax wick, wick has cotton and wood. The value of the choice of wood, the use of the recommended choice of cotton wick. Because of the uneven purchase of wooden wick, most of the burning will be a little sound, and bad wood will have a bad smell, burning for a long time will also have black wood chips fall in the wax pool, solidification is not very beautiful.

2, wax, is the main raw material for making scented candles, can be divided into natural wax and artificial wax.

Artificial waxes are made from paraffin, minerals and polymers extracted from petroleum. There are food grade (non-toxic) and industrial grade (toxic) paraffin waxes. Most players nowadays are more health conscious and are reluctant to buy paraffin waxes to death.

Natural waxes include soy wax, beeswax, coconut wax, etc.

Soy wax: Soy wax is a relatively common wax inside aromatherapy candles, bad soy wax will have certain impurities, but because it is a plant wax, so there is no adverse effect on the human body. It is more common and the price is more common to try.

Beeswax: Beeswax is a more environmentally friendly wax, 100% pure beeswax candles can also purify the air when burned, and therefore beeswax candles are known as the "noble" candles, usually we choose it mixed with other waxes to improve the hardness and smoothness.

Coconut wax: the candles made with coconut wax are milder and harmless to the human body, coconut wax itself is more expensive than soya wax, so the price is higher.

Soy wax is softer, beeswax can increase the solidity, for example to make long pillar candles can add beeswax, can increase the hardness is not easy to break, but also will extend the burning time, usually we will 1:1 deployment use.

3, dried flowers: there are two types of dried flowers, one is the prototype dried flower, which is directly dehydrated to maintain the three-dimensional prototype; there is another type of flower, which is a flat flower.

4, candle dye (alcohol dye, oil dye, powder, paste, grain, stick)

There are two common types of dye available on the market, solid and liquid, both of which are similar to each other.

If you are making light coloured candles, put less dye in, especially in the form of silk dyes, as only a little is needed to fully colour them.

IV. Notes on making scented candles.

  1. Heat the wax and melt it.

  2. The pot is made of stainless steel, which can safely melt the wax at high temperatures and is professionally designed to make wax easily. The outer pot is specially designed for heating the wax in water, adding water and using the inner pot together, the temperature of the wax will not exceed 100 degrees Celsius when melting the wax. This will not damage the natural wax material.

  3. when melting wax, the outer pot should not be too full of water, one third is sufficient.

4、When the temperature reaches 90 degrees Celsius, almost completely melt the wax, remove the inner pot and wait for the temperature to return to 80 degrees Celsius, add the colouring (skip this step if you don't add it), when the temperature drops to 60 degrees Celsius add the essential oil.

5, 100g of candle add 3-5g of essential oil, depending on the purity of the essential oil, personal preference, you can add or subtract

6, stir evenly, the temperature drops to 40 degrees, you can pour into the mold, the temperature as far as possible and the room temperature is not much difference, otherwise solidification of cold will lead to the emergence of cracks on the surface of the wax

7、Single wick is the first choice for aromatherapy candles, if the diameter reaches 9cm or more, then you need to consider using more than one wick.

8, plant extracted essential oils are unlikely to be more fragrant than chemically synthesised fragrances, the bigger scented candles are only lightly scented when lit, if you like it thicker you can use wood or resin essential oils.

9, if you add dried flowers, before pouring wax, sweep a layer of white oil in the inner wall of the mold (easier to dewax), put the dried flowers on the inner wall of the mold, use a small brush to brush a thin layer of wax on the dried flowers, because the thin wax solidifies quickly, so inevitably there will be gaps or small bubbles between the dried flowers and the candle, in order to be more perfectly rendered, you need to once again melt the edge of the outer wall with fire again, when there is a gap there with a hand bet on it. (This paragraph is borrowed from the experience of the net friend of the fairy, great, right)

  Five, scented candle care issues

Really play up no end of feeling there?

So newcomers try, may be from the simplest to start or their own interest in the beginning.

For example, if you like Korean styled candles, you might start with understanding moulds, waxes and colours.

If you like Japanese style, you might focus on dried flower arrangements and colour schemes.

If you like European and American bottles and jars, you may want to keep it simple.

The selection of natural waxes and essential oils is an essential part of the homework.

And of course, if you're sharing with friends, gift wrapping is something you'll need to look into.

All in all, making scented candles is a beautiful thing to do and a process that is constantly pleasing to you.
